To support compliance with Florida regulatory requirements and uphold client safety standards, independent contractors are responsible for maintaining all required training and documentation in current status. Optional resource links are provided below for convenience to assist contractors in obtaining or renewing required certifications and trainings.
Caregiver Eligibility Criteria
- Current CPR Certification
- Current level 2 Background Check- a criminal history screening that involves fingerprinting and a review of state and national records
- Health Statement dated Within The Last 6 Months
- Certification as a Home Health Aide or CNA
- Drivers License
- Evidence of a One-Time HIV/Aids Training
- Automobile Insurance
- Resume
- Two Professional References
- Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Training – watch and provide a certificate of completion of the Department of Elder Affairs’ one-hour training video within 30 days of hire.
- Provide proof of completion of two additional hours of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Training within seven months of hire – Training must be provided by an approved Elder Affairs provider.
Types of services caregivers may independently offer to clients
Providing non-medical and personal care services as agreed upon between the contractor and the client
Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene
Assisting with ambulation, transfers, positioning, and safe mobility
Preparing light meals and assisting with feeding, as requested by the client
Performing light housekeeping tasks directly related to the client’s care (e.g., laundry, dishes, maintaining a safe living environment)
Providing companionship and general supervision to promote client safety and well-being
Observing and reporting changes in the client’s condition to the client, family, or authorized representative, as appropriate
Complying with all applicable infection control, safety, and confidentiality standards
Maintaining any records required by law or agreed upon with the client
Scope & Compliance Acknowledgments:
Services provided must remain within the contractor’s legal scope of practice and training
Contractors do not receive clinical supervision from the Nurse Registry
Contractors set their own schedules, negotiate terms directly with clients, and may accept or decline referrals
Contractors are responsible for maintaining current licensure, certifications, background screening, and insurance, as required by law
Contractors are not employees of the Nurse Registry and are not subject to agency direction or control over the manner in which services are performed
